Between the monthly meeting

Four groups, each with its own hour.

Members form a group when enough of them share an interest. Technology, wine, photography and walking are the current set.

Technology

Thursday morning in the week before the meeting, 10 am, on Zoom unless advised otherwise. Two hours: an informal discussion of issues raised by members, then an interactive presentation. The convenor chairs the first hour.

This is the oldest group. It began as the Computer Interest Group and was renamed in July 2018, once the brief had widened past machines that now mostly work.

Past sessions have covered electric cars, engineering failures, artificial intelligence, the Musk legacy and humanoid robots.

Wine

The first group met in May 2012. It gathers on the Thursday afternoon before the main meeting, 4 pm to 5.30 pm, after the sun is over the yardarm, in a member's home.

A second group started in September 2016 and meets on the Thursday of the meeting week. Each tasting is usually hosted by a member.

Photography

Monday of the week before the meeting, 10 am to 12 noon, mostly on Zoom. Stills and video. The first hour is a critique of members' photos. The second is a tutorial, on a subject, an event, or a technique.

Walking

Formed in January 2018 for members and partners. Wollongong, Sydney, the Illawarra or the Southern Highlands. The group chooses the walk, from an easy stroll to a bush walk, planned at about 4 to 5 kilometres.

May walk: Main Beach, Port Kembla, to Red Point, mostly along the bikeway.
